Most name lists give you a wall of words with no explanation, so you end up picking something that sounds nice and finding out later it means something odd. Every name here has a short meaning next to it, so you know what you are choosing.

What is on the site

Lists organised the way people actually search: by pet, by gender, by colour, by breed, by style. A generator that filters by all of those at once when you want ideas rather than a list. And a few short guides on choosing a name and teaching it.

Where the meanings come from

Meanings are given as they are commonly understood, drawn from the usual origins: language roots, mythology, nature, food and popular culture. They are written for interest rather than as scholarly etymology, and where a name has several possible origins we give the one most people mean by it.

How the site is funded
